The Day I Realised I Was Chasing Everything Except His Love
A
A few years ago, I was ticking all the “good Muslim” boxes—prayer, fasting, charity—but something still felt empty. I had friends, a decent job, and people who respected my deen, yet my heart felt… distant. One night in tahajjud, crying for no obvious reason, it hit me: Duas for seeking the love of Allah
I had never truly asked Allah to love me.
Not in the desperate, lover-like way the Companions did. Not like Rabia al-Adawiyya who said, “O Allah, if I worship You out of fear of Hell, burn me in it, and if I worship You hoping for Paradise, exclude me from it—but if I worship You for Your own sake, do not withhold from me Your Eternal Beauty.”
That night changed everything. I started searching for every dua the Prophet ﷺ taught us to seek Allah’s love. And wallahi, when you start asking for His love sincerely, the entire worlds inside you begin to shift.
This post is everything I wish someone had handed me back then—authentic duas for seeking the love of Allah, their meanings, when to say them, and how ordinary people like you and me have seen their lives transform because of them.
Why Seeking Allah’s Love Is the Greatest Success
The scholars say: “If Allah loves a servant, Jibril loves him, then every inhabitant of the heavens loves him, then acceptance is placed for him on earth.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
Imagine that. Allah announcing your name in the heavens with love.
No follower count, no bank balance, or viral moment can compete with that single reality. When Allah loves you:
- Your dua is accepted faster
- Sins fall away like dry leaves
- Peace lives in your chest even during chaos
- Death becomes sweet because you’re going to meet your Beloved
Let’s stop treating Allah’s love as a nice side bonus. It’s the actual goal.
The Most Powerful Duas for Seeking the Love of Allah (With Sources)
Here are the supplications the Prophet ﷺ himself taught us. Say them with certainty that the One who taught them loves to respond.

1. The Dua Every Single Companion Memorised
Allahumma inni as’aluka hubbaka, wa hubba man yuhibbuka, wal-‘amala alladhi yuballighuni hubbak. Allahumm-ajal hubbaka ahabba ilayya min nafsi, wa ahli, wa min al-ma’il-barid
Translation: “O Allah, I ask You for Your love, the love of those who love You, and the actions that will cause me to attain Your love. O Allah, make Your love more beloved to me than myself, my family, and cold water.”
(Sunan Tirmidhi 3490 – graded Sahih by al-Albani)
Ibn Rajab said this dua contains everything. You’re asking for three levels:
- Direct love from Allah (the highest)
- Love of the righteous (so you’re surrounded by good company)
- Deeds that earn love (because love is proven by obedience)
Tip: Say this every day after Fajr and Maghrib. I know sisters who saw their entire marriage transform because they made this dua for their husbands daily.
2. The Dua of Pure Longing (From Qur’an)
Rabbana hab lana min azwajina wa dhurriyyatina qurrata a’yunin waj’alna lil-muttaqina imama
Translation: “Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us leaders for the righteous.” (Qur’an 25:74)
Imam al-Ghazali said the highest “comfort of the eyes” is when you see your family obeying Allah—because that’s a sign He loves all of you.
3. The Secret Dua the Prophet ﷺ Made in Private
Allahumma inni as’aluka al-huda, wat-tuqa, wal-‘afafa, wal-ghina
Translation: “O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment.”
(Muslim 2721)
This dua is pure love language. You’re saying: “I don’t want anything except what You love for me.”
4. The Three Things That Guarantee Allah’s Love
The Prophet ﷺ said Allah loves the servant who has these three qualities (Tabarani):
- When he gives, he gives happily
- When he withholds, he withholds happily
- When he gets angry, he only gets angry for Allah’s sake
Dua to ask for these traits: “Allahumma a’inni ‘ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni ‘ibadatika” (O Allah, help me remember You, thank You, and worship You in the best way – Ahmad, Sahih)
Practical Steps: How to Actually Earn Allah’s Love (Not Just Ask for It)
Asking is beautiful, but love grows through action. Here are the proven pathways the Qur’an and Sunnah mention:
- Follow the Prophet ﷺ completely “Say: If you love Allah, follow me; Allah will love you and forgive your sins.” (3:31)
- Make your tongue wet with dhikr The most beloved people to Allah are those who remember Him most (Ibn Majah)
- Give charity secretly “Secret charity extinguishes the Lord’s anger” (Bayhaqi)
- Pray tahajjud “The closest a servant is to his Lord is in the last third of the night” (Muslim)
- Fix your character “The most beloved servants to Allah are best in character” (Tabarani)
- Love for your brother what you love for yourself “None of you truly believes until…” (Bukhari)
Real story: A brother I know was struggling with major sins. He started waking for one rak’ah of tahajjud every night saying, “Ya Allah, I have nothing except this hour—love me.” Six months later he told me the desire for those sins literally died in his heart. That’s what Allah’s love does.

Daily Routine to Flood Your Heart with His Love
Here’s what actually works (I’ve tested this for years):
Morning (after Fajr):
- 100× the first dua above
- Ayat al-Kursi 3× + last 3 Quls 3× (protection goes hand-in-hand with love
Midday:
- Send 10 salawat on the Prophet ﷺ (every salawat = Allah sends 10 blessings on you)
Before sleep:
- Full wudu + 4 rak’ah nafl + long sujood crying for His love
- Read Surah al-Mulk (protects from punishment + increases love)
Friday:
- After Asr, sit in the mosque and make the first dua 1000 times if you can. People have seen miracles with this.
FAQs About Duas for Seeking Allah’s Love
1. How do I know if Allah loves me?
The biggest sign: you start hating the sins you used to love, and you feel pain when you disobey Him. Also, life starts “flowing”—doors open strangely, peace comes without reason.
2. Can I make dua for Allah to love me in English or my own language?
Yes! The Prophet ﷺ said dua is worship, and worship is accepted in any language if the heart is sincere. But memorising the Arabic versions carries extra barakah.
3. What if I keep sinning? Can Allah still love me?
Of course. Repentance is itself beloved to Allah. He loves the tawbah of His servant more than a man who finds his lost camel in the desert (Muslim).
4. Is it okay to beg Allah for His love like a lover?
It’s not just okay—it’s sunnah. The Prophet ﷺ taught us “Idkhalni bi-rahmatika fi ‘ibadika as-salihin” (Enter me by Your mercy among Your righteous servants)—pure begging.
5. How long does it take to feel Allah’s love?
Some feel sweetness in days, others in years. Keep going. The moment you give up is the moment before the breakthrough.
6. Can I make these duas for someone else to be loved by Allah?
Absolutely. Some of the salaf used to make the first dua above for their entire ummah every night.
Final Whisper from My Heart to Yours
Ten years ago I was spiritually dead. Today, by Allah’s grace alone, if you ask people who know me best, they’ll tell you the biggest change is that I talk about Allah like He’s my closest friend.
That didn’t come from knowledge or worship alone. It came from begging—night after night—for His love until something broke open inside.
Start tonight. Open your hands in the dark and say:
“Ya Allah, I’m bankrupt without Your love. Don’t leave me with anyone except You.”
Say it until you cry. Then say it again tomorrow.
Because the truth is: He was waiting for you to ask.
May Allah love you the way He loved the Companions under the tree at Hudaybiyyah. May He write your name among those He boasts about to the angels. And may we all meet Him while He is pleased with us.
Ameen.
Keep making these duas. Your heart will never be the same again. 🤍
